Zhang Gaoli, Vice Premier of the State Council, chaired and delivered a speech at the Plenary Meeting of the Leading Group of National Geographic Census held on November 22, 2017 at the National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation (NASG). Before the Meeting, Zhang Gaoli inspected NASG, viewed the display of the achievements of the national geographic census and monitoring, visited the Administrative Licensing Hall, and saw the front line staff at the National Geomatics Center of China.
Conducting the national geographic census is of great significance for understanding national conditions, grasping national strengths and making national policies, said Zhang Gaoli. He emphasized that the fruitful results of the first national geographic census should be published and well interpreted to expand the breadth and depth of public geospatial information services, and allow for the public and market entities to fully understand and utilize the census data; that the value of the national geographic census results should be fully explored according to government decisions and administration needs and creatively analyzed and applied from macro and micro, quantitative and qualitative, as well as overall and partial perspectives; and that a census data sharing mechanism should be established as soon as possible to break data barriers and connect isolated information islands among sectors and regions and provide better public services to the society.
Zhang Gaoli requested that regular national geographic monitoring should be carried out after the completion of the geographic census. The geographic monitoring should be conducted according to law, in a demand-oriented way, with a collaborative working mechanism, driven by innovation, and laying emphasis on performance evaluation.
