The Third China Map Culture Conference Held in Nanjing
The Third China Map Culture Conference was open on December 9, 2017 at Nanjing International Expo Center with a theme of “Maps: throughout the History and a Creative World”. This map cultural gala followed the Qingdao conference in 2014 and Nanchang conference in 2015. Kurexi Maihesuti, Director General of NASG, Wang Chunfeng, Deputy Director General of NASG, Wang Jiayao, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zhou Chenghu, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, attended the opening ceremony.
The Conference aims to carry forward China’s map culture, promote further applications of geographic information, cultivate the consumer market for geographic information, enhance innovation and development of the map culture industry and strengthen the exchange and cooperation in the profession. A map culture exhibition was held in conjunction with the Conference. It included the Exhibition of Ancient Map Culture of China, Exhibition of 2014-2016 Pei Xiu Award Winning Maps, Exhibition of Works from National Children’s Hand-drawing Map Competition, the Exhibition of Seeing Nanjing on Maps”, the Creative Map Design Exhibition, and the Exhibition of Private Map Collections. The exhibition displayed the profound culture of maps to visitors in various forms such as videos, pictures, words and multimedia interactions. It also showed the rapid developments in map compilation and presentation technologies in the “Internet+” era, including the latest research and development such as integration of VR and naked-eye 3D technology with maps, and rapid map making technology. The exhibition presented a visual feast of maps to the public.
