Overall Development of the Industry
China’s geographic information industry emerged at the end of the 1990s. As the application needs for geographic information increase, China’s geographic information industry grows rapidly. In 2012, China’s geographic information industry achieved an output of RMB 200 billion, with over 20,000 units and a total workforce of over 400,000. In the recent 5 years, the annual average growth rate of the industry has exceeded 25%, creating a batch of competitive geographic information hardware, software and data products. Geographic information products and technologies have been widely applied in the fields of land resources, communications, agriculture, environmental protection and public emergency response and so on, increasingly serving the public in terms of the basic necessities of life. At present, China geographic information industry keeps a good momentum with great demand and fast-growing enterprises.
