Status of Technological Development
Since the 21st century, China’s surveying & mapping geographic information scientists and technicians have made great efforts to tackle problems in key technologies of surveying & mapping geographic information with information-based surveying & mapping system construction as the main line, created a lot of major results of technological innovation in the fields of geodetic surveying, photogrammetry and remote sensing, map making and geographic information system, etc., thereby giving a strong impetus on transformation and upgrading of the surveying & mapping geographic information technology system and overall improvement of the service support capability, and ensuring rapid development of surveying & mapping geographic information. In the last 10 years, 20 plus surveying & mapping geographic information technological achievements of NASG have won state-level scientific & technological awards.
1. Geodetic surveying
NASG has established National Geodetic Coordinate System 2000 (CGCS2000), China’s first geocentric coordinate system, which gave great impetus to shifting of the 2D, static and reference ellipsoid-centric datum reference system for surveying and mapping to the 3D, dynamic and geocentric one; developed 360-step gravity field model WDM94 that is adapted to the characteristics of the gravity field of China. Also, NASG has set up the new-generation decimeter-level quasi-geoid CQG2000; completed the Beidou satellite navigation positioning system, which has entered the phase of overall networking and covered the Asian-Pacific region; moreover, NASG has developed high-precision positioning chip that is compatible with the Beidou satellite navigation system.
2. Photogrammetry and remote sensing
NASG has shifted from the traditional aerial photogrammetry to the integrated aerospace, aviation, low-altitude and ground remote sensing, and upgraded from the single data acquisition platform to the integrated multi-sensor and multi-level platform. NASG has made breakthroughs in technical researches on IMU/DGPS auxiliary digital aerial photogrammetry, aerial digital camera with large array and large overlap, three-line array aerial digital camera, airborne lidar system, airborne synthetic aperture radar system and digital low-altitude remote sensing, etc. Also, it has made breakthroughs in technical bottlenecks in terms of vehicle-mounted 3D data acquisition and ground-based wireless sensor network system and so on. NASG has made significant progress in researches on and development of key technologies including automatic extraction of high-resolution remote-sensing image and topography, airborne SAR mapping system, remote-sensing interpretation of land cover, control surveying in long-span area and local-area block adjustment, mapping and feature extraction technologies based on optics and radar remote sensing image as well as integrated mapping for field and indoor work, etc. In addition, NASG has made headway in intelligent methods for remote sensing image information interpretation and object identification, assimilation of land remote sensing data and calibration technology related to data of new-type remote sensor.
3. Geographic information technology
NASG has built a multi-scale and multi-version fundamental geographic information database and shifted the two-dimensional and static geographic information system to multi-dimensional and dynamic geographic information system. NASG has conducted researches on key technologies for updating of fundamental geographic information database and established a technical system for updating of the fundamental geographic information database. NASG has strengthened the technical capacity building for surveying & mapping geographic information emergency support, and increased the technical level for development and utilization of geographic information. NASG has made significant progress in key technologies related to data mining and open virtual earth integration sharing platform technologies, etc, and is integrating geographic information technologies with emerging technologies including the cloud computing technology and IOT technology and so on. In addition, it has significantly enhanced its capability in terms of acquisition of real-time geographic information data, processing of automatic geographic information data, grid geographic information management, all-around sharing and services of geographic information as well as diversified integration and application of diversified geographic information.
